Hauser & Wirth in Bruton is one of our most popular attractions. It is not far away, has something for everybody from its fabulous contemporary garden said to the perfect representation of garden designer Piet Oudolf's creations, to its restaurant and of course exhibitions. Created from old farm buildings which were once the setting for the film Chocolat, it has become one of the West Country's top all-round destinations. Great for all ages and dogs, though the latter are not allowed into the gallery itself or garden. 

The Newt In Somerset

A Garden That Has The Rest of The World In Its Awe

We find ourselves having to tone down our enthusiasm for The Newt because the more we say that it is positive about it the less convincing we sound. The house had been owned by the Hobhouse family for several centuries, and then it was sold to billionaire Koos Bekker and his wife Karen Roos, an editor at Elle Decoration South Africa, and after having spent a few million on carefuly curated craftsmanship the pair have transformed the property into a major local destination. No guest we send there comes back disappointed. The membership needed to access the estate may seem expensive but is truly worth going, not least for The Roman Villa, a spectacular, true-to-life reconstruction of a house that was once in the grounds before.

Not to be confused with Wells, this is one of the most special and secret destinations of the area though it is not far from the Soho House destination of Babington.  Famous for the legacy left behind by its Arts & Craft former visitors including this Lutyens designed bus stop.
